Apart from the EvE Online I’ve been playing, I got introduced to the Technic mod pack for Minecraft.

The Industrialcraft Nuclear Reactor

The original iteration of my reactor was a Mark 4-EC variant that had several coolant cells that would burn out during a normal cycle if left unattended from start to finish.

I was actually able to, with minor layout changes, convert the reactor to a Mark 2-1 EC variant, requiring a minimum of 1.34 cycles to start overheating and burning out. It’s a vast improvement from burning out 6 coolant cells in the first cycle.

The way I’ve been running things, I’ve been dumping a few stacks of ice to force-cool the reactor part way through when I saw some of my coolant cells start to show major heat damage. Now I only need to do that between fuel loads.

Something I’m going to see about finding is the crossover mod that allows me to use industrialcraft power generators to run buildcraft modules like the quarry that will play nice in the Technic pack. Not having to worry about fuel will allow me to focus on extracting LARGE sections of my landscape for building materials. There appears to be the necessary components in my current mod pack that will allow me to do this, but trying to use them just crashes the game and renders my game world mostly unusable. I’ll probably wait until that gets fixed.
